Born in April 1973, Dutch DJ Cubik has developed an early passion for music and electronic music equipment. Like many he started to listen to popular music but that didn't satisfy his curiosity. Not long after he started listening to bands like Depeche Mode, Joy Divsion, 808 State, The Cure and other alternative electronic music pioneers.

He bought his first turntables and mixing console in 1990 and learned his DJ skills. During this time the Dutch house scene started to become booming. He visited many parties in Amsterdam and was amazed of the power and energy house music provided. More stimulated on the energy of the music, he got in contact with a few party organisers and he got a shot at performing at his first house gig in 1992.

After his first performance bookings got more frequent and he played at big raves throughout the Netherlands. He got an opportunity with party organiser LoveJoy and he became a resident DJ for LoveJoy for a couple of years, DJ-ing side by side with big names like Buzz-Fuzz, Pavo, Prophet, DJ Paul, Dark Raver and Petrov.

In 1996 Cubik decided to stop DJ-ing for LoveJoy and changed his music style from Hardcore to Progressive/Trance. He started to perform at radio shows for New-Dance Radio (currently Slam-FM) and some other local internet radio stations. DJ-ing became a second priority when finished his degree and started working full-time in IT. In his spare time he kept DJ-ing and developed more love for Techno, Minimal, Deep House and alternative music styles (80s-90s).

Like many DJs, Cubik wanted to produce his own tracks. In 1999 he bought his first second hand synthesizer, a Roland MC-303 GrooveBox. Soon a new addiction was born and more synthesizers followed after the Roland. He bought most synthesizers on the second hand market but not all of them did what he expected, so many got sold on again. He now has a good collection of hardware and software synthesizers and produces tracks in musical genres like minimal, techno, trance, trip-hop and dance.

In the meantime Cubik kept DJ-ing at parties throughout The Netherlands. Because of his love for Depeche Mode and the good contacts he has with the Depeche Mode fanbase around the world he started to be a successfull DJ at dedicated Depeche Mode parties. His first Depeche Mode party was in 2004 in Amsterdam. Soon many Depeche Mode parties followed and he DJ-ed at Depeche Mode parties in Milan, Edinburgh, London, Glasgow, The Hague, Amsterdam and Hamburg for about 6 years.

Having a full-time job, time for DJ-ing and making music is limited but he manages to play between 20-30 DJ gigs per year and also released his first track called First Light in 2010.
